We have had a good first week, and realized quickly that we aren't in our Utah safety bubble anymore. It's just a different culture than we are used to, but we're excited and thankful for the experience.
On our first night, after checking in to our hotel, we went down the street to Smith's to get some groceries. Mistake! We quickly realized that was not the area for us at 11 o' clock at night (or any time of day, really)! Pretty sketchy people hanging around! We made it back to our hotel just fine, and we are learning quickly what areas not to visit. Kent makes fun of me because I am constantly locking my door whenever we drive anywhere. It just feels right!
We've seen a lot of cars with plastic bag/duct tape windows, notes on car windows that say: "If you are thinking about breaking into this truck...". So...that's where we are now. :) It is not uncommon to have your car window smashed in. We learned quickly not to leave ANYTHING in our car and are hoping it never happens to our little Yoshi. We REALLY love the location of our hotel, though. We are in a pocket of a bunch of other hotels so it feels pretty safe. And it's less than a mile from the airport, and only a few minutes from Kent's work.
Kent LOVES his internship and the people he works with! He can't talk much about it, but he is really loving it! Yay!
I will be volunteering at the Albuquerque Zoo/Aquarium starting on June 14th. I'm really excited to be able to go out and do something. Sitting in a hotel room got old really fast! Thanks to my Mom's suggestion (Thanks, Mom!), I have been doing some FamilySearch Indexing. That's been a big help in making me feel a bit more productive. I've done a couple of drawings, read some books, and watched a LOT of TV. It really has been fun, though! I am nowhere near complaining!
I just got home from driving Kent to the Airport. He is flying to California for a job interview at Edwards AFB. His interview is on Monday and will last for 4+ hours. Yikes! Intense! But he is a smarty pants, awesome person, so I know he will do a great job! We are both sad that I couldn't go with him, but it is only for a little over 24 hours so we will pull through, most likely. :)
We haven't really taken any pictures since we've been here, so I'll put up a few more gems from our drive down. :)

Sounds like a fun experience so far, thanks for keeping us posted! Seems like a nice neighborhood for a derby car ... no windows to smash out
