Happy New Thanksmas!!

It's been a while since our last post. So long in fact that there has been 3 major holidays. We have been busy and a lot has happened.

November

The best part of our November was that my family got to come visit for Thanksgiving! Our visitors included my parents, Brianne and Colton. They were able to stay for an entire week and it was heavenly. While they were here we went to the beach, the Flight Test Museum, and, of course, the infamous Musical Road! We also had a delightful Thanksgiving dinner and plenty of Word Search tournaments which Colton thoroughly enjoyed. ;) It was so fun to have them here and be able to just hang out with a house full of people.

Brianne's wonderful sandwich-labeling skills being put to good use.

We all got in the ocean. Very cold but fun. (My mom didn't get in per se, but after a sizeable rogue wave targeted her, she may as well have.) ;)

December

December was basically a buildup to Christmas. We were in charge of our ward Christmas Party so that kept us busy for the first couple of weeks. I cut out 100 paper snowflakes as part of the decorations, and there are literally still numb parts on my finger from doing it (Yes, that was over a month ago). But it was fun and the Christmas Party was a success! Then we went to Kent's work party. It was fun, but alcohol-enhanced dancing is not so much our scene, so we stayed the necessary amount of time and then headed home.  Kent was one of the few employees selected to receive a Christmas Bonus this year. (Being a very new employee, you have to be pretty awesome for that to occur.) And, he IS!!!
After all of our California Christmas festivities, we were lucky enough to be able to go to Utah! We got to spend Christmas with my family and it was so great. Taylor, Wyatt, and little Max were so much fun to watch on Christmas morning (granted, I don't think Max was TOO into it yet). Taylor was totally into the anticipation of Santa and it was the cutest. I was glad we got to be a part of their Christmas. It was the best! It was awful having to say goodbye, which my Mom always reminds me is a good thing because it means we love each other so much. But regardless of the meaning, goodbye's are not fun and they are always such a scene...there's just no getting around it.
We got to go eat lunch with Kent's family a couple days after Christmas. It was fun to see (almost) everyone but it was over too soon! Luckily, we were able to stay the night at the Thomas household and hang out with those cutie kids a little longer.
Then we woke up and hit the road. Sunday traffic from Vegas to California is not somewhere you want to be. Ever. Just a friendly little reminder for everyone. A stretch of road that should have taken 30 minutes to drive actually took us about 3 hours. It was the best. There were cars that thought driving through the desert would speed things along. (Also not a good plan, but whatever.)
Our New Year's Eve was quiet. We stayed home and had pizza and snacks and watched movies and played games. I had to wake Kent up for the countdown to 2015, so that's how hip-hoppin' our house was. Luckily there was a party a few houses down that was very loud, so we got to share in some of their New Year excitement.

January

Rashelle came to visit! We got to go to make our long-anticipated first visit to Trader Joe's and we were so glad to have her with us to point out all the best stuff. Coconut chips are not real life, I think. True confession: There are 4 bags in our pantry right now. They are officially a staple food in our house. We got to go to Santa Monica where we walked down the pier and had a delicious hamburger. Then we took a little baby drive up the Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu where Kent found some surfers. We stopped and watched them for a while, but unfortunately it was raining and not good conditions to be standing outside for hours in shorts and flip flops. (I'm certain we'll find ourselves back there in the near future...hopefully with Kent in the water attached to a surfboard.) Because of the rain, we decided to come home and eat a lot of snacks and play a lot of Triominos. It was so fun!

January has been work for Kent and school for Robyn. I started my internship this week at the Feline Conservation Center here in Rosamond. It's awesome! Feeding and taking care of tigers and jaguars all day? It's my dream come true! Full time school, a full time internship, and Young Women's is keeping me really busy and taking a bit of getting used to, but I'm really enjoying it. :)
